The Aureole Diamond takes its name from the radiating field of light that surrounds sacred figures throughout old European religious art.
It's something I've always been drawn to — the light surrounding figures of Mary, Christ and the saints.
Religious art has had an enormous influence on how I look at design and, ultimately, how I create. It's not only the figures themselves that fascinate me, but everything happening around them — the framing, architecture, colour, light and tiny details you might completely miss at first, but find yourself stepping closer to appreciate.
I felt this more than ever walking through the Pinacoteca di Brera in Milan. There were paintings I could stand in front of forever, constantly finding another detail to look at. More than anything, I want our jewellery to feel nostalgic without simply recreating the past — taking the feeling I get from old art, religious jewellery and European craftsmanship and creating something new from it that can eventually hold your own memories.
